When I was nine years old I played the role of Marta in a community production of The Sound Of Music. I was welcomed to the world of performing.
I was encouraged to explore different instruments including the piano and cello. I nerded out in the band with my alto saxophone and earned a Music Scholarship which supported me through high school. My early influences came from the Beatles and the MGM musicals.
I 'found my voice’ after answering an ad that was looking for a jazz singer and soon after began study at the Australian Institute of Music. I was accepted into the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and graduated with Bachelor of Music Studies (Jazz Vocal) in 2008. During my three years at the Conservatorium, I was privileged to study under the guidance of internationally acclaimed vocalist, Kerrie Biddell.
In 2011 I participated in the Music Theatre Studio program at NIDA and began studying with music theatre heavyweight, Margi de Ferranti. I returned the community stage to play Christmas Eve in Rockdale Musical Society's Avenue Q.
Some performance highlights have been singing the National Anthem for the Prime Minister in 2007; recording with Live and Swinging at ABC Studios for James Valentine's The Form Guide; fronting The Metro Big Band and the Rhino Factory Big Band and arranging and performing my composition "Time and Space" with Judy Bailey's big band, Jazz Connection.
The most enjoyable part of my musical journey so far has been composing. I am fortunate to be able to collaborate with some of Sydney's most talented musicians who bring my music to life. I have performed at Sydney music venues such as The Basement, The Vanguard, The Brass Monkey, Soup Plus and Venue 505.
I am a proud writer member of the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA AMCOS) and have been working in the organisation's Public Performance Licensing department since 2014.
